From Voucher to Voyage: Get Your JR Rail Pass in Japan
Step 1
Upon your arrival in Japan, proceed to the nearest JR Pass Exchange Office to initiate the exchange process. Ensure that you have your passport, featuring the temporary visitor stamp, and your Exchange Order ready for presentation to the Exchange Officer.
Step 2
Collect your JR Pass, which is required for entry at the ticket gate for train access and when making seat reservations.
The Pass Is Available For
- Non-Japanese passport holders under the entry status of "Temporary Visitor".
- Japanese Citizens who have lived abroad for more than 10 consecutive years with a certificate from their local embassy.
You Can Not Purchase a JR Rail Pass If
- You enter on a student visa.
- You enter on a work visa.
- You are a japanese citizen and have lived abroad for less than 10 years.
- You enter Japan on any other visa than "Temporary Visitor".
